Leaving Glasgow, we basically drove across the country, through the fantastic landscape of the Scottish Highland! This was such an enjoyable journey, I have to say that I could feel the journey all the way into my stomach (and I meant in a good way!) as we drove through the magnificent mountains. The time was just not enough to make all the stops we wanted! I think I will just say that a picture says more than a thousand words (and even though these are still taken with my iPhone…)
Of course I needed to be one of the big crowd that has photographed Scotland´s most photographed castle (that we were lucky to drove by!), Eilean Donan Castle – this is the shit..!
We took us all the way to Isle of Skye, the northeast part, where we stayed at the picturesque Flodigarry Hotel. This hotel is located in a magnificent landscape with an almost endless view of the sea and mountains. Breathtaking!
We lived in one of their “cottages”, a cosy room in an old fashioned environment!
Who would not like to wake up to this view in the morning..?!
The hotel has got a restaurant as well as a pub, so this will be good for the small as well as the big wallet.
After some hiking in the area, our journey continued. Now, I have heard that you can not make a visit to Isle of Skye without also visting this well known distillery:
I am not a whiskey drinker myself, but I tagged along for a tour and even tasted the noble fluid… They also had a stock to show:
As you drive through the landscape ant between farms, sometimes speed bumps occur… What to do? Well, if you are polite as my driving husband is – you wind down the window and say “hello”. The bull then shortly nodded his head and stepped aside
The meeting car waiting in the other direction gave us the thumb up!
There were a lot of places you could stop you car and go hiking in the wilderness to experience the nature close by, without a windshield in between. We made a few stops on the way, and although there were many cars by the roads, you still got the feeling of being all alone in the middle of nowhere…
Next stop for us was Invergarry, where we had booked a room at the adorable bed and breakfast at Ardgarry Farm! We stayed in the middle of this small farm, in a room with our own entry. For breakfast, we stepped into the nice couple´s living room and enjoyed the breakfast we had chosen (you know the choice between a full Scottish breakfast or a better one
)
We got a good laugh in the morning when we were greeted good morning at the door!
From here we went to Fort Augustus, to watch for sea monsters!
