A wonderful castle visit at Dalhousie Castle
The summer of 2012 was the summer we made the amazing journey to Scotland where we discovered the country by car. We landed at Edinburgh airport and picked up our rental car to get us to the first stop which was two nights at Dalhousie Castle in Bonnyrigg, a 30 minutes drive from Edinburgh. (This journey was before my investment in a better camera, so all photos are taken with my iPhone, therefor the quality is not always as high as it could be, but I hope you will enjoy the photos anyway!)
The car was, as all cars in Scotland, wrongly built
It was a strange feeling to get into the passenger side to the left (yes the passenger side, I was not going to drive!)…
After approximately a 30 min drive, we came to Dalhousie castle. We were enchanted the very minute we saw the pinnacles and towers! What mysteries may be hidden in all this history..?
We got a room at the top floor, enjoying this view:
This creaking stairs led us to the room three floors up, what an amazing atmosphere – it will get you all to feel like a royalty!
Dalhousie Castle had it all; the atmosphere, the surroundings, the mysteries, the interior design, the very friendly staff and excellent food! The first dinner was in the restaurant in the cellar vault among the knightly equipment – how cool is that?!
The breakfast in Scotland is quite a challenge..if you choose the “full Scottish breakfast”:
Not everyone can make that choice though… In Scotland I learned that scrambled eggs and cold-smoked salmon is a success!
After two days, we left the fairytale castle to continue our journey through Scotland – are you with us?!
